I have pointed out the many ways that one could use their talent and their gifts to glorify God, thus being good stewards.  So what about tithing?  Tithing is a way to Glorify God by providing for the Church as a whole to help spread his name.

When most people sit down and make up a budget for their family, they set amounts for housing, food, utilities, insurance, car payment, gas, entertainment, and hopefully tithing. The thinking of most is how much of what is left can I give to the church.

In Luke 12:34 Jesus says: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Jesus is challenging us to consciously make the choice between money and God.  We either become emotionally attached to our money, or we become emotionally attached to God who gives us our money.  That’s right everything we have comes from God.  That includes your job, social security payments, and your retirement check.

As a young adult I did not fully realize that God truly provides us what we need when we need it.  Over the years when that unexpected car bill or major appliance failure came along, shortly thereafter we would get extra cash that would cover the bill.  Amazing how God works.

We need to be faithful managers of all that God gives us and in so doing God will transform us spiritually so that we may extend Christ’s transforming love to others.
